Stroke and Stride 2009 – Year in Review
Every year athletes in the Boulder area all converge on the Boulder Reservoir every Thursday night to race. The Boulder Stroke and Stride series is a great way to do race simulations of the open water swims I “enjoy” in triathlon. Today was the last day of the Stroke and Stride season, Race #10. I raced 6 time this year and have some great experiences…. if you take out the rain and thunderstorms which we are always evading. Here are my results for the year:

It was a great day to race, but I was on a too much training load to have a great time… My A race this year is in late August. Everything went ok, but felt pretty slow and hard. The 750 meter swim took me 14:05, the 17.2 mile bike took 48:38 (21.2mph), and the 5k run was 26:24 (8:31/mi).

Stroke and Stride 6/11/2009
Last night was my first stroke and stride event in Boulder, CO. I had not done the “races” beforce because I always thought it was a little expensive for training days… After having quite a few friends doing them, I finally signed up for the 6 pack. It was my first day this year in my wetsuit. After setting up my transition, I went into the reservoir to test the water. It felt a little cold at first, but I got warmed up fast. The swim was pretty non eventful, I never found anyone to draft off of… but had a few foot taps to let me know someone got lucky. My swim time was ok at 12:52 (750 meters), my run was a little slower due to some tired legs from tuesdays track workout with D3, but it was still ok 24:58 (5k). I ended up 25th overall with a total time of 39:27.

It is always fun to run with 45000 of your friends… I had a great day and the temperature was perfect. My total time was 53:10.61, which was a little slower than last year, but I haven’t been doing any speed work… Guess its time to get to the track.

Another Marathon down… During one of my long days I had some knee problems after 18 miles, so I was a bit worried. After about 20 miles, my knee started to really hurt. My pace was great until then, but my knee definitely slowed me down and I was just glad to finish. My total time was 4:07:28
